LIFE UNIVERSITY STUDENT TO SERVE ON LEADERSHIP COUNCIL FOR 2023 GEORGIA CLIMATE CONFERENCE
Marietta, Georgia– February 3, 2022 – Life University is pleased to announce that Kaitlyn Ivey, a student in the Bachelor’s in Human Ecology program, has been selected to serve on the Student Leadership Council for the Georgia Climate Project’s (GCP) 2023 Georgia Climate Conference.
Campus Rainwater Garden
Destinee Rivera’s goal is to create a rainwater garden on the Life University campus, creating a green infrastructure by the Ian Grassam Treehouse. She will have six types of plants, including three types of flowers, two different types of shrubs and grass. The natural beauty of this garden will add to the pretty landscape of our environmentally friendly campus, and it will serve an important purpose.
Butterfly Research Project
Jazmyn Hambrick, who recently graduated with a Human Ecology degree wants to let people know that butterflies are not only pretty, but they are also vital to our future. Restoring these lovely creatures back into the environment is not about cosmetics and beauty, but they serve an important purpose in sustaining our environment. Butterflies help us sustain our food supply, as well as other plants.
Thrifting: Kinder to the Planet and Your Wallet
Life University (Life U) is committed to a more sustainable future. This is perhaps most evident in our Human Ecology program, which explores how human behavior impacts the larger environment. To that end, we love to share simple and easy ways that our Life U community can make a positive impact on Mother Earth. Faces of LIFE- Destinee Rivera
As a child, some might have mistaken Destinee Rivera for a fish for all the time she spent in the water and on the beach growing up in Richmond Hill, Georgia. Her respect and admiration for the natural world were apparent from early on, spending many afternoons on the waterfront and by the marsh watching aquatic wildlife in its natural state and taking in beautiful sunsets.
Faces of LIFE- Dr. Stephanie Wakefield
Dr. Wakefield is relatively new to Life U, having only come on board in Fall 2020. Yet in her short time at Life U thus far, Dr. Wakefield has left several positive waves in her wake. “I really enjoy working at Life U, and one of the things I love is the openness of the University and the community here to create this new program—this Human Ecology program—and trying innovative teaching and learning methods, like outdoor learning, active learning,” said Dr. Wakefield.
Human Ecology and Designing Our World
Today we take a look at a program that similarly requires a bit of explaining, beginning with the title: Human Ecology. the field of “ecology” is defined as “the study of the relationships between living organisms, including humans, and their physical environment. Ecology considers organisms at the individual, population, community, ecosystems and biosphere level.
LIFE UNIVERSITY JOINS THE GEORGIA CLIMATE PROJECT
January 31, 2022 – Life University (Life U) has become the tenth university in the state to join the Georgia Climate Project.
