Chiropractic Founders Day Celebration at Life University
Founders Day is officially September 18, which celebrates the birth of Chiropractic and the founders who began this extraordinary journey we call the chiropractic profession. This begs the question, however, of why students who are not studying Chiropractic would want to attend this celebration. These College of Graduate and Undergraduate Students have an excellent reason for attending.
Faces of LIFE- Olivia Porpora
Going into her collegiate years, Olivia Porpora’s initial plan was to continue on to medical school. She studied Exercise Science at the University of Delaware, and while completing her bachelor’s degree, Porpora decided that medical school was not the path she wanted to take because it didn’t align with her personal beliefs on what health care should look like. She had been seeing a chiropractor and “always thought it was a really cool profession.”
Faces of LIFE- Jordy Carle
“The coolest thing about Life U is that it is very small. It’s fun because you get to meet a ton of people, and [a high percentage of students] are in the D.C. program. The coolest part is you always have something to talk about because many people are studying the same thing,” said Jordy Carle.
Faces of LIFE- Khyle Mingo
Khyle Mingo and his six siblings grew up in the coastal town of Milford, Connecticut. Mingo has the notable distinction of being the oldest boy, with only one sister older than him. His family lived in Connecticut until he was 16 before moving to Charleston, South Carolina. After high school, Mingo earned two bachelor’s degrees from Coastal Carolina University, one in Science and one in Public Health.
Faces of LIFE: Sydney Bickmeyer
Bickmeyer’s biggest piece of advice is for prospective students to come to a LIFE Leadership Weekend and see if they fall in love with the philosophy. “If you don’t love chiropractic philosophy, you are going to get burnt out,” she said
Hannah King
“I was working in the athletic training field, but I found that it was too slow paced for me and had begun thinking of alternatives. I asked my stepdad for advice, and he talked to the (traditional medicine) doctors that he works with and asked what they would do if they could do it over, and the majority of them said that they would be chiropractors!”
Kain Queck
“I always planned to become a chiropractor,” states Doctor of Chiropractic student Kain Queck. From Fontanelle, Iowa, Queck holds an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Northern Iowa. He says that he originally decided to attend school there since it offered a dual-enrollment program with Palmer College of Chiropractic, but after speaking with several practicing chiropractors, they all referred him to Life University for his chiropractic studies.
Spencer Surmont
From Detroit, Michigan and working on his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Spencer Surmont is also on the pre-D.C. track here at LIFE. Even though arriving on campus just out of high school, Surmont knew long before he got here that Chiropractic would be in his future.
