β€œThe Right Track”

What made your first quarter at Life U so memorable?

I would say the campus. Even when I went on my first tour here, just walking around and seeing the waterfront, the waterfalls. And just seeing how friendly everyone was. I was really quick to make friends.

What surprised you during your first quarter at Life U?

The one thing that surprised me the most was the freedom I had. In high school, the teachers tell you β€˜This stuff won’t fly when you get to college!’

It’s just so different, coming from high school thinking college would look a certain way, but then actually getting here, it’s like β€˜Oh, OK.’

You said that you are on the Life U Women’s Track and Field team. What is that experience like?

My team is very diverse. Being on the team, I’ve met girls from Iceland, the Bahamas … from all around the world, hearing all their different stories.

I am a thrower, so there are a lot of challenges. When I first started on the team, I was the only thrower, and there are six of us total on the team. Now there are about 70 people on the team, and they just added a [Men’s Track and Field] team, and [on the Women’s Track and Field team] we now have multiple throwers and a great coach.

The Track team has grown so much from when I arrived here in 2017. That’s why I’m still here.Β

What advice would you give new or prospective students as they think about what attending Life U would be like?

Be willing to adapt to the changes around you. Life U changes a lot. Whether it’s policy or way that it looks. This quarter, we got new classrooms, and I came back thinking β€˜Okay, that’s cool’.

Be open. Make sure you’re diverse. We do have an [unspoken] rule where if you see somebody on campus to say, β€œHi,” to get used to talking to people you don’t know. Enjoy it; have fun. That’s all it is really aboutβ€”having fun and making connections and to do what you have to do in the classroom. And if you are in a sport, do what you have to do in the sport and in the classroom as well.

My 1st Quarter is a campaign featuring students reflecting on their 1st quarter of studies at Life University and why it was so special and unique. All University students (undergraduates, graduates and D.C.) are encouraged to share their experiences in order to help those in future incoming classes get a real-life glimpse of what they can expect as they start a new chapter of their education journeys at LIFE.
