“Life University Staff Member and Author publishes new health-focused book, Back N’ Balance

Jermaine Alexander is a Cleveland, Ohio native and began working at Life University in June of 2023. Alexander works in the Life U Fitness Center and with the Student Affairs Office, handling the Campus Recreation & Wellness. He is active in creating programs for faculty, staff and students alike; his enthusiasm and energy for the work that he does is palpable from the moment one interacts with him.

Alexander holds 26 years of professional experience in Orthopedic Rehabilitation. In search of a warmer climate and of a better fit professionally that aligned more with his values, Life U presented itself as a great fit. Having played basketball at Clark Atlanta University, he became aware of the independent wellness approach that Life University is known for, and the decision to move to Georgia was an easy one.

“It has been a blast ever since I came onboard [Life University],” Alexander notes. His experience in collegiate athletics and later in orthopedic rehabilitation allows for Alexander to relate with the student body and faculty of the university. Due to degree programs such as exercise science and others offered by the university Alexander is grateful to be able to share knowledge and past experience with those around him at Life U.

“My mindset has always been one of wellness,” says Alexander, “I wanted to impact and help people get to where they need to be from a health standpoint.” After beginning his professional career in fitness and athletic training, Alexander moved into the healthcare industry. He began work at the Sparrow Health System in East Lansing, Michigan and later at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

Having always been involved in the realms of fitness and wellness, Alexander had the desire to share his knowledge with others. ‘Jermaine, you can have all the knowledge in the world… But it is useless if you have no one to share it with,’ Alexander recalls the advice of a mentor, who initially sparked his motivation to begin publishing his work.

“In the world of healthcare, I could have one or two touchpoints with people,” says Alexander, “I realized that with writing I could reach many more people.”

While in East Lansing, Michigan, Alexander spent time appearing on a Channel 6 show named Meet the Experts, as well as a show in Cleveland, Ohio called Fitness Fridays.

As far as the launch of writing career, Alexander points to the writing for the Lansing State Journal where he could publish articles surrounding knee, ankle and hip mobility. After having his writing published in a variety of other publications in 2022, Alexander decided to consolidate all of his ideas in order to begin the process of becoming a published author.

After having published various books on different topics such as childhood obesity, functional health and others, Alexander published Back ‘N’ Balance after having worked on it for many years. His latest book focuses on conveying useful information for adults looking to transition into a more functionally fit lifestyle and sharing with them the knowledge that he has acquired over more than 30 years of professional experience.

Life University is thrilled to have Jermaine Alexander as a member of the staff and looks forward to further publications regarding the optimization of functional health for all.
