Dr. Geo Laws to Strengthen LIFE’s College of Online Education

As she approaches her two-year anniversary at Life University, College of Online Education Coordinator Dr. Georgianna Laws continues to develop tools to strengthen distance learning at LIFE. Laws was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the United States Distance Learning Association and presented at the USDLA Virtual Conference in July on the subject of online faculty and staff recruitment.

LIFE UNIVERSITY’S CHILLON PROJECT PARTICIPATES IN VIRTUAL HILL DAY

Marietta, Georgia, August 4, 2020 – On Wednesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 30, Life University student Kareemah Hanifa and Chillon Project Director Dr. Thomas Fabisiak met with Representative Austin Scott (R-8) and staff from the offices of Senator Kelly Loeffler, Senator David Perdue and Representative Barry Loudermilk (R-11) to talk about the transformative power of higher education in prison. The meetings were part of the “Virtual Hill Day” event organized by the Vera Institute for Justice. Dr. Fabisiak and Ms. Hanifa were joined by Assistant Commissioner Jay Sanders and Dr. Heather Corbett from the Georgia Department of Corrections.

“Ask yourself why you are in this space,” Getter said. “How are we going to get you to that why? You have to be open to being counseled around that because it is never just about the money; it is about your purpose. If your purpose is in sync with the donor’s perspective, they are going to support you because they have been where you are.” To that end, she shared that Life University’s core values that are engrained in the campus culture – Integrity, Vitalism and Lasting Purpose – help students get clear on their position and purpose and help them find that “why” they’ve been looking for.
