Congratulations to Class of 2017 Life University Rugby alumnus Cody Melphy on making the Team USA Rugby squad for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics!

Rugby has been with Life U since the beginning on the club level, and it has grown over the years to being one of the most decorated sports teams in intercollegiate history with its club/senior level team, along with its men’s and women’s intercollegiate squads. Since 1986, Life U has played at a senior level, including a stint in the Rugby Super League from 1997 to 2002 and 2009-2012. Life U then joined the USA Rugby Elite Cup in its only season in 2013 before solely moving back to D1 Club status. Life U’s club/senior level team won the Rugby Super League Championship in 2000, the Elite Cup Championship in 2013 and the D1 Club National Title in 2019.

Life U’s men’s intercollegiate rugby team has appeared in the last seven D1A National Championships, winning four in 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2019. The men also captured the USA Rugby Sevens Collegiate National Championship in 2011.

Life U’s women’s intercollegiate rugby team has championships of its own to boast, winning the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) in back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017. The team has also made appearances in the last three USA Rugby D1 Elite National Championship games, ultimately securing Runner-Up to Lindenwood University in each final.

With the success each level of the program has achieved, Life U is considered one of the top, if not the top, collegiate rugby programs in the United States.
