In a way, the college lifestyle is kind of a Catch-22. It is the time of many people’s young lives where they hope to be able to explore and grow and live life to the fullest, and yet it is a time at which many people’s bank accounts are insufficient to fully realize everything they want to do. Valentine’s Day is no exception, yet here are some budget friendly ways to spread the love with significant others or close friends this February 14.
- Build a fort to watch a fun rom-com or favorite movie
If you ever watched the pillow fort episode of the hit sitcom Community, you know that a dorm room can be a great foundation for fort building. Break out the sheet and get to draping; then, pile fluffy pillows on the floor. With a few snacks, the atmosphere is turned cozy and whimsical for a Valentine’s Day to remember.
- Cook together
Cooking delicious meals and sweet treats with a date or a few friends is a great way to spend quality time together. To make it more exciting, try a new recipe or something you have never even eaten before.
- Go out just for dessert
A full meal out can get pricey, so maybe eat at home or in the dining hall. Then, go out for fancy desserts and/or drinks.
- Go to a museum
The Atlanta area has so many fun and interesting museums of all kinds to visit for a Valentine’s Day that is inexpensive and entertaining. Some museums may have valentine’s events or programs, so be on the lookout. A few popular options include Fernbank Museum of Natural History, The High Museum of Art, The Center for Puppetry Arts and the College Football Hall of Fame.
- Enjoy the great outdoors (weather permitting)
Take a hike on Life U’s beautiful trails or have a picnic in the lush grass.
- It’s not boring with a board game night
Get a group together to play your favorite games.
- Remember your student IDs for discounts
A Life U student ID (or any student ID) will get you discounts for all kinds of activities on Valentine’s Day and year round.
- Take an exercise class together
Get healthy and have fun while doing dance cardio, yoga or other exciting ways to get moving. Many such classes are offered for students, faculty and staff at the Life U Fitness Center.
- DIY Spa Night
Score Pinterest and your kitchen pantry for easy and cheap ways to self-pamper and get silly with friends and/or significant others.
- Hit the Arcade
There are still some great old school gaming centers that won’t break the bank and make for a fun night out. A few near Marietta include Flashback Games Arcade, Marietta Melt Yard (restaurant and Arcade) and Tin Pin Game Bar (attached to a Tin Lizzy’s).
Happy Valentine’s Day. Sending love your way!
