At Life University (Life U), we are dedicated to ensuring that our students, faculty and the community have access to accurate and positive information about chiropractic care. As a proud member of the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP), we are actively working to counteract any negative media that may arise and to promote the many benefits of chiropractic care.
Stroke awareness requires us to be prepared with the correct information. F4CP has provided valuable talking points and research to ensure that you feel confident in addressing any concerns or questions that may arise from your patients or the community.
Key Talking Points:
- Cervical Artery Dissection (CAD) is Extremely Rare:
- The incidence of CAD is as low as 1 per 8.1 million chiropractic office visits.
- Understanding Arterial Dissection:
- Arterial dissection of the cervical (neck) arteries is a very rare condition, occurring in 2-3 individuals per a 100,000 population annually. This condition often presents with neck pain and headaches, leading individuals to seek medical advice or treatment.
- Equal Risk Across Medical and Chiropractic Care:
- Studies have shown that the likelihood of a stroke following a visit to a medical doctor or a Doctor of Chiropractic is the same. Epidemiological research involving millions of patients over several years indicates no increased association of stroke with chiropractic care compared to medical care.
- Research from the University of Pennsylvania Hershey Medical Center:
- A team of neurosurgeons published a study concluding, “There is no convincing evidence to support a causal link between chiropractic manipulation and cervical artery dissection (CAD).”
- Effectiveness of Chiropractic Care:
- Chiropractic manipulation is a safe and effective treatment for neck, mid-back and lower back pain. A comprehensive review of scientific evidence supports chiropractic care as much as other treatments like prescription and non-prescription drugs and surgery.
At Life U, we emphasize the importance of staying informed and prepared to address any misconceptions about chiropractic care. The F4CP is actively monitoring the media for opportunities to provide balanced and accurate information.
By working together and staying informed, we can continue to promote the positive impact of chiropractic care and ensure our community is well-educated about its benefits
