Chiropractic is an extremely rewarding and compelling career for professionals wishing to serve others through holistic health care. It can also be physically demanding over time, as providing on-target, hands-on chiropractic adjustments often means staying on one’s feet and applying varying degrees of force and movement to facilitate healing for patients. The concern for chiropractors as projections are made for the future is a simple math problem that does not necessarily have a simple answer. As chiropractors who have lived out their professional lives to serve Chiropractic begin to retire, is there a matching or surpassing number of young or future chiropractors to not only replace them but hopefully grow the profession in a positive direction?
According to Data USA’s Chiropractors report, the average age of chiropractors as of 2023 was 45.7 years old. As the average retirement age in the U.S. is 62, that means in a little over 15 years, many of those individuals will likely be retiring. Therefore, a new group of energetic, talented and enthusiastic chiropractors will be needed to keep the chiropractic profession alive and well. Life University seeks to lead the charge in equipping the next generation of chiropractors to pick up the baton and continue the tradition of providing exceptional chiropractic care throughout the world.
Our flagship Doctor of Chiropractic program is specially designed to educate future chiropractors through a dynamic path where innovation, real-world training and a vitalistic philosophy come together to shape the future of health care. We create well-rounded chiropractic professionals through a variety of methods and offerings, such as:
-
Robust research: In order for the chiropractic community as a whole to flourish and to demonstrate a scientific basis for its efficacy, continual relevant chiropractic research is necessary. Life University’s Dr. Sid E. Williams Center for Chiropractic Research provides students with the opportunity to contribute to research of clinical relevance to the patients and profession of Chiropractic, embodying the core values of Life U. A research track is also available for chiropractic students that wish to learn more about chiropractic research and its professional possibilities.
-
Leading-edge technology: Life U provides students with the opportunity to work with and learn from emerging technologies, such as the Palpation Adjustment Trainer (P.A.T.), a life-size mannequin that provides real-time feedback and helps refine adjustment techniques – an innovation available only at Life U.
-
Hands-on learning experience: Hands-on experience is at the core of our program. From the early stages, you’ll engage in clinical practice, honing your skills under the guidance of experienced chiropractors. Our state-of-the-art facilities, including the William M. Harris Center for Clinical Education and our Center for Health and Optimum Performance (C-HOP), provide you with real-world experiences to build confidence and competence. Lastly, students in the 13th or 14th quarters become student interns through the PEAK program, working in partnering outpatient clinics to gain real-world practice experience under supervision of a licensed chiropractor.
-
Strategic networking and shadowing: We encourage students to seek every opportunity to connect with practicing chiropractors that can give them practical guidance and mentorship on the workforce they will be entering. To that end, we offer a number of clubs related to many technique and practice type interests, many of which are sponsored by partnering chiropractic leaders in the community. We also have an active Alumni & Friends community that represents a wealth of support and information for students, with many chances for connection throughout the year through events, seminars and more.
With every passing year, as Life U graduates hundreds of chiropractors each year (approximately 300+ annually), we are honored to play our part in shifting health care in a holistic direction and contributing quality chiropractors to the growing chiropractic workforce.
