Integrated Content Creator
“A Passion for Writing and Family”
Kelsey Asher is one of two new Integrated Content Creators in the Marketing Department at Life University (Life U). She began working at Life U in January of 2022. Asher also just celebrated her first wedding anniversary to Taylor Smith this past May. A search for spiritual connection brought Asher and her husband together, and they continue to grow in their faith. They met when they were undergrad students at the University of West Georgia (UWG) and served side by side in a college campus ministry called UWG Wesley Foundation, a Christian Methodist Group. Her husband currently serves in the chaplaincy department at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite. Family is very important to both Smith and Asher, and in fact, they live seven minutes away from her parents. They also have a dog named Snoopy whom Asher refers to as “king of the condo”.
Asher grew up in Marietta, Georgia and discovered her love of writing at a young age. While attending Pope High School in Marietta, she was an editor for the school newspaper. She decided that she wanted to find a way to write for a living.
“As I was exploring what can I do as a career to write, I started with Journalism, and that is where my first passion grew,” said Asher. “I really love telling people’s stories, stories that don’t always get heard.”
Originally, she wanted to study journalism but decided that she was equally interested in understanding how marketing, public relations and all the nuances that go along with creative writing work together to create successful marketing and communications campaigns. She chose to major in Mass Communications at the University of West Georgia and minor in Creative Writing, graduating in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree. This provided Asher with various communications elements she needed to succeed in the marketing field. She enjoyed learning such things as the backend of WordPress, how to organize items on a website as well as social media marketing.
After college, Asher explored her creative writing and utilizing her communications skills. She applied her experience to a variety of different businesses, including a publishing company, two construction-based businesses and a community magazine. In these roles, Asher focused on brand awareness, blog creation, website design, social media marketing and more. Asher was able to hone her writing and editing skills as Contributing Editor for Peachtree Corners Magazine.
“I came into my own with [working for Peachtree Corners Magazine] because I was able to really focus on promoting this great community and sharing everything about the great community news, events and the different things going on there,” explained Asher.
Growing up, Asher annually experienced Life U’s Lights of LIFE and has many fond memories of it with her family. She especially remembered the holiday dioramas that used to be on display there. So when she came across the ad for the Integrated Content Creator position, it brought to mind many of these wonderful memories. She also knew that Life U was a well-renowned chiropractic university. She was very excited to find this position because she felt that the job description matched her experience.
Looking ahead, Asher hopes to continue to make great connections with the faculty, staff and students. She loves attending the on-campus events and getting to meet the people she collaborates closely with in person.
What has stuck out for Asher the most at Life U is that “Life U cares a good bit more about you as a person and how your work is within your team as opposed to being a cog in a wheel to be able to produce a product. We do great work, but I think that I feel more valued here than I have at other times in my life because it is just a different dynamic.”
Asher also said that she loves her work at Life U because “I am able to have that individual growth but also having the collaborative aspect. It’s been the best job that I have had.”
