Ryszard “Rys” Chadwick is the Head Coach of the Women’s Rugby Program at Life University. He joined Life U in August 2022 and has since been an influential figure in the program.
Faces of LIFE: Madelyn Jennings
M.S. in Sport Health Science student, Life U Women’s Rugby player. “Always part of a team”. Just a hop, skip and jump away from New Orleans sits Slidell, Louisiana, the cozy home of Madelyn Jennings. Jennings and her sister Gabrielle grew up on a steady stream of sports, with many of their classmates filling out multiple team rosters due to the lack of numbers in their tiny school. Their parents encouraged them “to pursue new sports and try new things.”

Lacrosse is a newer sport at Life University, only in its second season for the Life U Women’s Lacrosse team. It’s a gritty sport that demands drive and dedication from its players, qualities that Annslee Warchol has in spades. As an B.S. in Exercise Science student on the cusp of graduation, she faces her future head on with a smile on her face and a lacrosse stick clasped firmly in both hands.

Nigel Hepburn is a Life U Men’s Track and Field athlete and an B.A. in Environment and Sustainability student. He talks about how he enjoys the camaraderie he has built with this teammates, as well as traveling with the team (even as he misses the comforts of his cozy Life U dorm.) As a sprinter, he is used to moving fasting but in his life he is trying to slow down and enjoy where he is at before having to move on to the next phase.

Devyn Gomez is a B.B.A student and Women’s Wrestler for Life University. She grew up as a a jack of all trades when it came to sports, trying her hand at gymnastics, dance and countless others. But wrestling quickly captured her heart. Now as this All-American looks to her career future, she has big dreams of working in sports media, perhaps even ESPN one day. She already has some good practice under her belt, conducting interviews with student athletes on behalf of Life U and shadowing our Sports Information Director.

Starting a new collegiate sports team program from scratch is no small feat, yet Head Coach of Life U Men’s Lacrosse Michael Baggetta is up to the task. Baggetta has a respectable history of coaching teams with academic success as top priority, while still remaining competitive athletically. It’s a tradition that he hopes to continue at Life U and so far seems to be playing out well.
