Friday marked the start of the Wrestling U.S. Olympic Trials in Pennsylvania. Life U’s own Jamilah McBryde was not there.
McBryde, a sophomore at Life U who won the 2024 NAIA National Championship in the 143-pound weight class, earned a qualification spot at the Team Trials.
However, U.S. officials said she could not compete in her religious-adhering uniform because it violates international uniform stands, set by United World Wrestling.
“They said if I showed up at weigh-ins in a singlet, I’d be allowed to compete, but that’s not an option because religiously I cannot show up in a singlet,” McBryde told Atlanta News First on Friday.
